Bo Derek was 16. Director John Derek was 46. He left his wife, actress Linda Evans, for her.
They married in 1976 when she turned 18. Now, 40 years later, Bo Derek is ashamed, she tells Interview magazine.
Famed for the blond cornrows and wet one-piece bathing suit, she recalls shooting Dereks film Fantasies on the Greek island Mykonos, turning 17 during the shoot and having her mom chaperone her.
It was very strange, Derek says in the current issue. I feel terrible about it.
Derek explains that she did not know who he was but his then-wife, who starred in Dynasty, was someone whom I worshipped and adored, and who was so kind to me. And then, when all this happened, I was at least halfway responsible for some serious pain she went through.

Over the years when Derek would see Evans, the actress was very gracious and kind.
She had even run into Evans the day before speaking with Interview and said, she was just as fabulous and wonderful as ever. I always feel like s--t when Im around her. Its just ingrained, years later. That will never change.
When the director and teen fell in love, they moved to Europe so he could avoid statutory rape charges.
She dropped out of school and when she turned 18, they returned to the states. They stayed together until his death in 1998.
Derek and longtime partner, actor John Corbett, live in Santa Ynez, Calif., and she reflected on the scandal she was involved in decades ago.
Ive been thinking about it, she said. I dont know why I never put it together, being responsible for the breakup of their marriage, but the dots didnt connect for a while.
I just hate myself when I think about doing that, she said. Thats the worst thing you can do. It was very complicated, and dramatic, obviously. Some people could say it was meant to be, though, because I was with him until he died. But that just sounds like an excuse to me. Its still the wrong thing to do.
